About me
Kim Richardson is one of the very few coaches in the UK to specialise in coaching people like you to success. He focuses on what you really want from your business, and helps you turn this into reality. He addresses your problems and leads you through the morass of demands that a self-employed therapist faces every week. He identifies where there are blocks to your progress, and works with you to overcome them.
A passion for coaching
Kim's passion for coaching stems from his own experience as a student of coaching and as a coachee, which was life-changing on both a personal and a business level. His mission is to share the impact of this experience and, through coaching, make a difference to other people’s lives. (That means you!)
He specialises in coaching complementary therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists because this is where his desire, experience and success really lie. He qualified as a counsellor in 2000, but spent many years wondering and worrying about every aspect of his business. 'Is this the right theoretical approach?' 'What direction should I be going in?' 'How can I get more clients?' 'Am I any good anyway?' His practice suffered.
He turned to coaching, and gained a full diploma from Middlesex University. Now that he has coached himself, all this has changed. He is a busy and successful therapist, pushing at the boundaries, exploring the market and attracting new clients.
A range of skills, experience and interests
Kim is also a successful writer, with over 40 books to his name. This skill, and his passion for the written word, means that his coaching extends to the crucial detail of helping his clients write effective copy in their leaflets, advertising and websites - a much-underrated success factor in the therapy business.
He has been freelance ever since 1990, so he knows what it means to keep body, soul and business alive as a self-employed sole trader. He has been a lecturer at Otago University, New Zealand, and has taught counselling skills in Stroud, Gloucestershire. He is a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Member of the Association for Coaching, a BACP Accredited Counsellor, founder of the Man2Man (Counselling for Men) service and the Gloucestershire counsellor for the Meningitis Trust.
Kim lives in Stroud, Gloucestershire, where ‘alternative’ practitioners are actually mainstream. These are his first port of call when his exercise regime of cycling, tennis, running and walking occasionally let him down. His partner and three teenage children keep him grounded in love and domestic reality. He is an active member of the local organic co-operative farm, an avid card player on Thursday evenings, and a founder member of a long-standing men’s group.
